Martial Arts Action: The Le Brothers and Martial Club

Everything Everywhere All At Once (EEAAO) gave us the fantastically entertaining multiverse movie that Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness failed to deliver. The mind bending story, endearing characters, wackiness, humour and unexpected awesome martial arts action are all key components of the film’s success. The Le brothers, Andy and Brian Le, did triple duty as choreographers responsible for all the fun and nostalgic martial arts action scenes, including the famous fanny pack fight, stunt doubles and stunt actors with supporting roles in the film.

The directors of EEAAO, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (aka the Daniels), worked with stunt coordinator Timothy Eulich and fight choreographers Andy and Brian Le to achieve the classic Hong Kong fighting style with wider shots and fewer cuts compared to other Hollywood action movies. Andy and Brian added their own unique twist to modern martial arts to create fun and exciting fight scenes.

I was first introduced to Andy Le and Brian Le through their MARTIAL CLUB 武館 YouTube Channel that my husband, who is also an avid martial arts fan, found on YouTube. The Martial Club parodies for the Bruce Lee and Ip Man movies caught his attention as those are among his favourite martial arts films. We were very impressed with the production quality! The action choreography is creative, fun and a wonderful fan tribute to the original films.

Martial Club was created by self-trained martial artists Andy Le, Brian Le, and fellow martial arts fanatic friend Daniel Mah. Their motto is “Promoting the virtues and ethics of traditional martial arts in the modern world”.

The movie parodies are well done with attention to details: down to the sound effects and the white powder when there’s contact with a fist or kick!

They have a great sense of humour that is especially entertaining if you are familiar with the original movies the parodies are based on.

A Kung Fu Vampire Story was a special halloween tribute to the action comedy horror genre that I love. The genre was popular in the late 1980s because of the Mr. Vampire《殭屍先生》Hong Kong film series.

Martial Club also posts videos of training, behind the scenes and specia vlogs such as visiting the Shaolin Temple in China. Their respect and appreciation of martial arts is always present through their enthusiasm and dedication to create and share related content.

The Le Brothers continue to give us great action as stunt performers while expanding their acting portfolio with films and television projects like Shang-Chi, Hanuman Shadow Master and American Born Chinese. It is truly inspiring to see them take their love of martial arts from YouTube to Hollywood.
